The adventures of Misty and Sasha continues
Many dogs freak out during a thunder and lightning storm. My Samoyeds were like that. At the first low rumble, Misty and Sasha both would run frantically through the house looking for a place to hide. In the house where we lived in Montreal, we had a small powder room without a window. It was an ideal refuge for the dogs and they felt safe in there.

When Misty and Sasha were about five months old, my stepdaughter went out with her friends for Halloween. She came home with a huge pillowcase full of Halloween treats. I told her she had to keep them safely locked up so that the dogs wouldn’t get into them when we weren’t around.

We had a storm door over our front door. One day, we arrived home from work and discovered that the front door was wide open, but the storm door was still closed. I was surprised because I understood my stepdaughter to say that she was going out for supper with friends. She told me she had to leave by five-thirty. It was almost six o’clock when my husband and I got home. I expected to find my stepdaughter running around the house in a flap because she was so late, but no one was home. My dad had gone to visit my brother so I just assumed that my stepdaughter had taken the dogs for a walk at the last moment.

There was something wonderful about having two dogs. There was no dog whisperer back in those days, but most people did their best to train their dogs to obey. As much as we taught them, they taught us more. We were lucky as far as I was concerned, we never had to worry about our puppies misbehaving, because they never did… for the first two years of their lives.

We loved our two perfect little puppies. We had heard horror stories from other dog owners about how destructive dogs could be, but we never had any problems with either of our dogs, at all.
