Nikka’s journey continues

I guess you could say that I learned the hard way that Nikka didn’t like barking dogs just as much as I didn’t like them, especially those tiny little yappers that never stop barking while they’re awake. Malamutes seldom ever bark, unless they feel threatened by someone, or something. They are great talkers though.

THE SNOW SCULPTURE

Nikka’s journey continues

 

We adopted Nikka in October and in the end of January, we had friends visiting us for a couple of weeks. The weather had been typical for January. There was a lot of snow and at that time it was extremely cold. We had been having a great time with our friends, but they wanted to be outside more than we wanted to be. Quite frankly, when the days are bitterly cold, my body seizes up and I can’t bear it. I often felt bad for Nikka because she was a snow dog and she loved the cold. She could endure the extreme cold for several hours at a time. I could only last a couple of minutes at best.

NIKKA’S PERSONALITY

Nikka’s journey continues

I thought that after having Samoyeds for seventeen years that I knew just about all there was to know about dogs, but I sure didn’t. Every day with Nikka was a new learning experience. Dogs are like children …no two are alike in their personalities and in their likes and dislikes.

PORK CHOP FLIP

Nikka’s journey continues

Day one with our new dog whom we named Nikka was exciting. When we went to the shelter to pick her up, we were told that she probably wouldn’t want to get into the car. Not so, we took her outside on her leash and as soon as my husband opened the car door, she jumped right into the back seat. She was on her way to her new home and she was as excited as we were.

THE HATPIN

Sometimes in life things happen that one cannot understand at the moment, but it is accepted and stored on the back burner of the brain only to come to the foreground at some later date in the form of an epiphany. It is that precise moment when the past not understood event suddenly makes sense.
