ROAR LIKE A BEAR

Nikka’s journey continues…

As I mentioned in one of my previous stories about Nikka, she loved to watch Animal Planet on television and from watching it, she learned to roar like a bear.

Because of her monstrous size, her bear growl was as deep and as resonating as that of a real bear.

Whenever possible, we took Nikka with us wherever we went. She would sit up on the back seat and look at the scenery slide by as we drove along.

One day, as we were driving on our road, we saw that up ahead of us, one of our neighbors was walking his little floor mop dog. We didn’t particularly care for this man mostly because he was a real know-it-all and was usually drunk. We found him to be quite obnoxious most of the time.

Just as we were almost parallel to him, Nikka let out one of her bear growls and scared the man so bad that he covered his head with his hands and fell to the ground. He was wearing beige slacks. I think he had to go home and change his trousers after that.

My husband and I laughed so hard that we had tears in our eyes. The funniest part of it is that there are no bears, or any other kind of big animals in Prince Edward Island.

We didn’t see him again for a few weeks and then when we did see him, I had to apologize to him for our dog scaring him half to death. I asked him what he thought it was. He said that he was sure it was a grizzly bear that had sneaked up on him from the roadside brush.

Believe me, it was really hard not to start laughing again when I apologized.

Another time when we were visiting friends in Montreal, they had a neighbor who liked to jog. He was a very conceited fellow who always looked around to make sure everyone was watching him running in his exhibition gear… you know… shirtless in his summer-bronzed body and wearing barely there tight short shorts that we all assumed he stole from his two year old son because they were so small.

Again, we were in the car with Nikka and we were approaching the man from behind. When we were just a few feet behind him, Nikka did it again. She hung her head out of the window of the car and roared like a bear.

I swear the man leapt so high in fright that his next six steps were in mid air without his feet touching the ground. He never even looked back to see where the bear was. Everyone who witnessed the scene laughed themselves silly. My husband and I were hysterical.

Nikka, herself was so pleased that she had done it again. She let out a soulful moan and wagged her tail in excitement.

The End

Nikka’s journey will continue
